SAP and Cohere partner to speed AI deployment in regulated industries

SAP has announced a partnership with Cohere, the enterprise AI company behind the North platform, to help regulated industries deploy AI faster. The focus is on financial services, healthcare, and public sector organisations where data residency and compliance requirements have historically made AI adoption slow and expensive.

The announcement frames this as infrastructure news, but we read it as a talent signal. Regulated industries have been cautious adopters of generative AI precisely because compliance teams could not sign off on how the models handled sensitive data. If SAP and Cohere solve the deployment problem, what follows is a hiring problem: who configures these systems, who owns the data governance layer, and who translates between the AI capability and the business process it is meant to improve.

We have already had conversations with financial services companies in Frankfurt and Zurich who want SAP professionals with hands-on experience in AI integration. The specification they keep describing is someone who understands how to structure data pipelines while satisfying audit requirements. A bank we spoke with last month was explicit: they needed a candidate who could explain model governance to their compliance team and also configure the SAP integration layer. They had been searching for four months.

The compliance knowledge that SAP professionals have built in regulated industries is suddenly relevant to AI projects. Companies are paying a premium for people who can work across both domains, and we placed one such candidate into a Zurich insurance company earlier this quarter. The search had stalled twice before we got involved because the hiring manager kept interviewing strong SAP architects who had no exposure to AI tooling or regulated data handling.
