SAP demonstrates Autonomous Enterprise at SAP Connect

Christian Klein’s keynote at SAP Connect put the Autonomous Enterprise front and centre, with live demonstrations of SAP Business AI Platform orchestrating processes across procurement, finance, and supply chain. SAP is positioning itself as the backbone for AI-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

For companies running SAP, this raises immediate questions about team composition. The consultants we place into S/4HANA programmes now need fluency in how AI agents interact with core business logic. A finance transformation lead we placed in Zurich last quarter spent her first month mapping which approval workflows could shift to autonomous handling. That kind of thinking once sat with a separate innovation team. Now it belongs inside the core project.

The demand for hybrid profiles is intensifying. Companies want people who understand Basis administration and can also articulate where machine learning fits into their process landscape. The role specifications we receive from Munich and Frankfurt clients reflect this: technical depth plus the ability to sit between the SAP team and the data science function.

Candidates building careers in the SAP space should take note. The consultants getting shortlisted first are those who can point to real experience with AI integration, even at proof-of-concept scale. A senior S/4HANA architect we spoke with last month had worked on a single Joule pilot, and that experience moved her to the top of two separate shortlists in the same week. The search radius for hiring managers may need to widen. The profile you want probably sits in a company that has already started this transition.
