SAP has been named a Leader in Gartner’s inaugural Magic Quadrant for Supply Chain Management Suites. The recognition reflects SAP’s bet on connecting planning, execution, and business processes into a single platform. For companies running SAP already, the appeal is obvious: one vendor, one data layer, fewer integration headaches.
We have spent the past 18 months watching supply chain roles shift. The classic SAP MM or WM consultant is still in demand, but hiring managers now ask for something extra. They want people who understand how procurement, logistics, and finance connect at the data level. That requirement now lands in the first paragraph of the job specification.
The Gartner recognition will accelerate this. When a major analyst report validates a product category, budget follows. Companies that delayed investment in supply chain digitisation will now find it harder to justify waiting. And when budget moves, headcount moves with it.
We are advising clients to start mapping their talent gaps now. The bottleneck will be finding consultants who can configure SAP SCM modules and translate what the system does into language a COO or CFO can act on. Technical depth combined with commercial fluency is the profile that clears shortlists fastest right now. A search we ran last quarter for a logistics-focused SAP Lead took seven weeks longer than expected because candidates with both supply chain configuration skills and stakeholder presence were difficult to locate.
Candidates working in SAP logistics or procurement should consider broadening into planning and demand sensing. The roles opening up over the coming 12 months will favour those who understand the full chain, and salaries for that profile are already running 10 to 15 percent above comparable single-module specialists.
