Oracle’s NetSuite has spent years building its position as the ERP of choice for mid-market and high-growth companies. At SuiteWorld this week, the message was that ERP itself is evolving. AI capabilities will handle more of the repetitive transactional work, freeing finance teams to focus on analysis and decision-making. That is the pitch, at least.<\/p>\n
The reality on the ground looks more complicated. We work with companies across the DACH region that run NetSuite for their core finance and operations. What we hear from them is that AI features create as many questions as they answer. Who validates the automated journal entries? Who reviews the cash flow forecasts the system generates? The software may be getting smarter, but someone still needs to understand what it is doing and why.<\/p>\n
NetSuite administrators have traditionally come from an accounting or finance operations background, with strong configuration skills layered on top. The new requirements add a data fluency element. Companies want people who can work with the AI tools, understand the underlying logic, and spot when the outputs are off. We placed a NetSuite finance lead for a Swiss e-commerce business earlier this year after the role had been open for four months. The company kept finding candidates who were strong on one side or the other. The person they hired had spent two years at a company that had already rolled out early AI features inside their NetSuite environment. That experience made the difference.<\/p>\n
A controller we spoke with in Munich put it simply: she wants someone on her team who can explain why the AI flagged a particular variance, and whether to trust the recommendation. That kind of interrogation skill is what separates a capable administrator from the person who becomes indispensable when automated features start making decisions.<\/p>\n
